SNOW TIME

Training on grass inter-season is not always approved of by some race club trainers, who are concerned that it may have an adverse effect on snow technique.

However this young 10 year old snow skier, who won her age category in the 2002 and 2003 French Grass Ski Championships in Le Sauze and the 2003 World Youth Championship in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic, on snow finished the 2002/2003 season in 1st place in the Alpes Provence regional championships, and was 10th in the final of the Coq d'Or, the French national competition. There are some differences in stance between the two disciplines, but the similarities are considerable, especially as skis for snow are getting ever shorter.

Grass skiing - an excellent preparation for the winter season.

Whereas on snow beginners pass through the snow plough stage, on grass this is impossible and newcomers to the sport quickly learn to ski parallel. No sliding possible to correct trajectory either, on grass you have to get it right first time. Good discipline for budding racers, the course inspection on grass is even more important than on snow.

Virtually identical technique ......

Skiers switch between the two disciplines without the slightest hesitation.....

Grass skiing is therefore the ideal complement to alpine skiing as a result of the technical similarities between these two sports.

Whether a leisure skier or a competitor, grass skiing can be an excellent method of preparing physically, of perfecting technique, of training for alpine skiing. It is easier to learn grass skiing when already a snow skier, and vice versa as well, for a grass skier will have no difficulty in learning to ski on snow
